Zelco "itty bitty" Book Light LED Edition

A great reading accessory.5

I had the original "Iddy Biddy Book Light" for years. I finally got tired of using C batteries and being tethered to the battery pack. I bought the LED Edition book light a few months ago and I love it. The fact that it holds the batteries was worth the price. The LED lights are great. They don't produce any heat and the light they cast is very easy on the eyes. I spend usually 1 - 2 hours reading at night and I never have had any problems. I gave my wife the old book light and now she wants and LED version for herself. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a book light.More detail ...

daylight24 Booklight Black

A perfect 105

Every now and again there is a product that stands above the crowd. The daylight24 Booklight is such an item.

I have looked at various book lights from the two major producers: MightyBright and Zelco. Most current offerings by them are LED based lights. I have been less satisfied with these for a variety of reasons. I might have considered the incandescent itty bitty light from Zelco but many reviewers have warned of quality control issues. I have owned the Lightwedge but it is cumbersome to keep moving it and it scratches easily leaving it unpleasant and annoying to use.

Design: The clamp/battery base holds 3 AA batteries. This may add bulk and weight (an advantage see below) but this leads to a longer battery life. There is a convenient on/off switch on top the base. The bottom has two pieces that slide out to the sides to form a stable base so this light may be set on a table instead of only attached to a book. The base also has rubber feet to hold it in place. The extra batteries in the base give it the necessary support. The goose neck that holds the lamps comes out of the front not the top as in most other similar designs. This design allows you to move the light in a much broader way nearer the book. The light itself is long and narrow which allows the light to cover an entire book with absolutely no hot spots. The illumination is even over the entire book. The quality of the light from the cold cathode tube is... perfect. Unlike LED lamps it is very white but not too bright while it maintains true color palette.

Quality: Top notch. The base of the daylight24 is not at all flimsy like those made by its rivals. It has a high quality metal (yes that's right metal) toggle on off switch that is very unlikely to break. The quality of the goose neck which is important to keep the light steady is only approached by those on the Zelcos. However it is the length of this one that sets it apart from them. This goose neck makes those on the MightyBrights seem like horrible toys. The light fixture appears to be a high quality plastic on top with protective glass covering the bulb.

Feature set: The daylight24 remarkably comes with an ac adaptor and batteries unlike most others. It has its own padded carrying pouch that has two compartments one for the adaptor and one for the light.

Value: At $16 this light is a tremendous bargain. No other book light comes close.

I applaud the manufacturer for making this product and Amazon for making it so affordable. It therefore receives my highest rating and recommendation. More detail ...

GE 17228 LED Book Lights Battery Operated Clip-On Colors May Vary

Book Light4

Great little book light. It's got a brightness that might disturb your bed partner who can't sleep unless there is total darkness. I "husband tested" mine and it works fine for us.More detail ...

Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Book Light with Adaptor - Black

Best little light5

I've had about a zillion book lights and I finally found this one. I liked it so much that I bought two more as gifts. I love being able to plug it in and not waste batteries. If I had a complaint it would be that it's a tad too bright even on the second setting but I wouldn't let that stop me from buying another. More detail ...

Mighty Bright Black TravelFlex LED Book Light

The best Kindle light5

I had one of the Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 lights and I liked it a lot but I always thought to myself "this would be perfect if it only had one LED and only used one AAA battery." Well I was shopping in Fred Meyer and saw this light and picked it right up and was incredibly pleased. I only ever need one LED when reading my Kindle so this is perfect. It is a lot lighter than the XtraFlex 2 and it is really easy to carry an extra battery if you think you might run out of juice soon. This light is PERFECT for the Kindle 2. It clips on to the cover perfectly in many different places (I prefer right on the spine) and doesn't slide around or make the Kindle off-balance.More detail ...

LightWedge Flex Neck Reading Light Soft Touch Black

Perfect5

This reading light is great the flexing neck lets you bend it any way you need for where you clip it the 2 LEDs put out just the right ammount of light to see both pages perfectly without throwing any light around the room and for 10 bucks you just cant beat this. Best reading light ever.

Update: Been using this for several months now. Still like it very much.. the batteries are a little more expensive than AAAs would be $5 for the 2 it uses if I remember correctly but its worth it cuz theyre very lightweight.More detail ...

RiteLite LPL795XL Four LED Clip Light / Book Light / Mini Task Light

Nice design 4

I bought this book light and gave it as a gift. It turned out to be a very cool design; the head can be spread apart for a more diffused area of light which is awesome for those who want to read and not have to adjust the light from one page to another. There was one problem though. The features says that the book light have 3 modes: the off mode a dim light mode and the brightest light mode. Suddenly after testing it out THREE times the book light lost either its dim or brightest light mode (even with new batteries). I say "either" because we did not get a chance to get use to how bright or dim it could be since we only tried it out but I am leaning towards the lost of bright light mode because now it only turns on (quite dim) and off )=More detail ...

Zelco "itty bitty" Original Book Light

junk1

The first bulb burned out after about 10 hours of use. With second bulb the lamp itself stopped working with another 5 hours of use. Didn't work with several new bulbs. Now the lamp and bulbs are in the trash and I'm looking for a new little lamp.More detail ...

Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Light (Silver)

They're not kidding!5

The company that manufactures this light is called Mighty Bright and for good reason! The lamp gives off more than enough light to read by in a pitch black room. It has two brightness settings one with both LEDs and another with just one. The LEDs in this lamp are so bright that only one is really needed having two is an added bonus. I'm not using a power adatpter I'm running off of 3 AAA batteries. LEDs use such a small amount of power those batteries should last me a year or more. Overall I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of this light. With such a fair price I didn't think it would really hold up but I'm definitely going to recommend it.More detail ...

Zelco Itty Bitty Book Light Replacement Bulbs Set of 2

Better deal and reliability with different voltage3

I've used Zelco's booklights for years and discovered early on that their bulbs burn out quickly - no doubt a nice profit center for the company since replacement bulbs cost about a dime each when bought in bulk. The problem is that four 1.5 volt batteries (or the AC adapter) produce 6 volts and while called 6 volt bulbs these things actually work optimally at 5 volts (which 4 rechargable NiCad batteries would produce but that's another discussion). The solution is to hit Radio Shack or a similar vendor (maybe amazon has them?) and buy 7.5 volt replacement bulbs (they're about a buck each at full retail). You get very slightly less light but a single bulb has now lasted me almost 3 years of nightly use because the filament in the bulb is burning at a lower temperature. So only buy these 6 volt bulbs if you like replacing bulbs frequently and/or need the extra 7% of light they squeeze out of their overworked overheated filaments or are using NiCad rechargable batteries (which although they're called 1.5 volt batteries only produce 1.3 volts).More detail ...

Rite Lite LPL904 4 LED Book / Computer Light

Great little light for the price.5

I just received this yesterday and my 9 year old son really likes it. It is very small lightweight and can be clipped to a book or laptop computer or even placed standing-up on a nightstand. There are 2 clips on the unit: The one in the picture slips over a book. There is another one on the back that is spring-loaded and can be pulled out to put the light on a laptop computer.

The telescoping arms don't extend very far (maybe 6-8") but it is fine for the intended purpose. One great feature is the rotating head. It can rotate 360 degrees so that you can aim the light exactly where it is needed. The beam is wide enough to easily light up a full-size book even when attached directly to it. The light also has a 3-way on/off switch that cycles between full-on a bit dimmer and off. This is nice if the full-on is too bright for you. I think this light is a great bargain at Amazon's price.More detail ...

GE 17205 LED Book Light Clip-On Battery Operated Silver

LED book light4

i've had a couple different book lights before and they never lasted long changing batteries and light bulbs become a hassle. that is one of the reasons i really like this book light. the light i may never have to change and LED last a very long time. i haven't had it long enough to be sure how long the battery will last. one thing about this light that im not all that impressed with is the clip... its not the strongest in the world especially clipping it to a paperback book. but it works well... its small and compact and easily adjustable... and the clip is clear so you can read right through it unlike other book lights i've had.More detail ...

Ritelite LPL792XLB 5-LED Computer and Book Light Metal

The best book light possible5

I rarely write reviews for the products I buy. This product is an exception. Never in my life was I so pleased with such a simple product as a book light. It is just very smartly designed: It is dually compatible with both power supply and computer usb port. It has dual intensity lighting. It has a magnet at the base so it connects sturdily to any metal object. It runs on standard AAA batteries that are easy to find not some impossibly rare lithium stuff thats impossible to find. It has a blue backlight that reduces strain on the eye by reducing contrast. Oh and I almost forgot to mention that the LEDs give off light at just the right intensity for reading/typing. Seeing that no reviews were written to date I just had to let you all know that being priced even less than the competition this is certainly the one to get.More detail ...
